UK Church Tourism Week

The United Kingdom celebrates its first Church Tourism Week on July 22-31, 2016. The Churches Conservation Trust organized this week-long program to promote and celebrate England’s historic churches.

“England’s treasured churches not only tell the fascinating histories of their communities, but also host some of the country’s most extraordinary and imaginative events and activities,” said Crispin Truman, CEO of The Churches Conservation Trust.

“Our first Church Tourism Week is about celebrating the incredible events and experiences on offer in our churches and inviting people to explore these extraordinary buildings,” Truman added.

The Church Tourism Week showcases mixed aerial classes, circus workshops, poetry reading, summer tea parties, and rock and pop concerts. There’s even a climb to the top of a church tower and those who successfully reach the top would be able to take a glimpse of France, if the weather permits.

“These churches are a blueprint for the future of England’s churches, which would have otherwise been lost,” said a trust spokesman.
