Jesus Commissions IHOPKC to Birth Out IHOP University

The International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Missouri (IHOPKC) gave birth to the ministry, IHOP University in 1998.

IHOP University consists of three components: a Bible School, a Worship School and a Media School. The hands of Jehovah blessed current vice president of IHOP University, David Sliker, to construct the ministry through the works of his hands for a decade: 1998-2008.

“The actual genesis of why [IHOP University] exists began in 1999,” Sliker tells Atlanta Christian Voice. “I wanted to launch it so that people could study the Bible for the rest of their lives.”

IHOP University is a 4-year program, whose goal is to produce graduates that can lead in the very expression of God’s calling for their lives. It fosters ministry training within its Bible School, Worship School and Media School in order to prepare the works of the hands of students to become future ministry leaders for their callings to serve in Christ Jesus, for such a time is this.

The mission of IHOP University is simple: To train leaders to partner in the Great Commission by advancing 24/7 prayer, worship and prayer and to proclaim the beauty of Jesus and His glorious return.

Throughout the three components of IHOP University, Sliker places great emphasis on the students having a deep intimacy and prayer life with Jesus Christ so that they are prepared to serve in their callings after graduation.

“The kind of student who comes here is passionate about Jesus,” Sliker said. “There’s a good spectrum for the person, who wants to grow in music, ministry and missions. A lot of our graduates go onto full-time ministry. A number of them have gone onto missions work.

The classes offered by IHOP University are taught in a variety of languages, including English, Chinese, Portuguese and Russian. Student spend days in the classroom and about six hours of outreach locally.

IHOP University has witnessed countless souls being saved through Jesus Christ as a result of the local outreach.

“We’ve seen dramatic signs of healing miracles,” Sliker tells Atlanta Christian Voice. “Our students really do teach the nations. They have a pull on their hearts to love Jesus and a pull to be with others who love Jesus. Jesus is doing something in IHOP University for them.”

Sliker’s favorite part of serving as vice president of IHOP University is the quality of the students, staff and faculty.

“The students really have a prayer life and they really love Jesus,” Sliker said. “There is something real and happening in secret with the Lord. From our cleaning staff to the registrar to the librarian, everyone really has a profound prayer life. They have a genuine love for Jesus and serving. The students are coming to a school built on a passionate pursuit for Jesus. It’s a joy to show up to work every day because everyone is a joy to work with.”
